2,000 Stripling Warriors

August 6, 2020

I love stories that show good triumphing over evil, especially when the forces of good are outnumbered and unlikely to win! The account of Helaman’s young warriors in the Book of Mormon is one such story. No matter how many times I read it, I come away inspired by these young men’s faith and the miraculous way that they became victors.

As we created our preschool curriculum we were certain that we wanted to include this story. In the end, we dedicated a whole week to it: W is for 2,000 Warriors!

We are not certain what times are ahead, but we are certain our little ones will need strong faith just like these young warriors. There are so many important lessons to be learned from just this one story.

Today we are sharing a resource we made for our preschool curriculum to help you teach the story of the 2,000 young warriors in your study of Come Follow Me (August 10-16). Since preschoolers are just learning number concepts, we wanted a visual way to help them understand just how many 2,000 actually are. That is why we created the following printables. Choose either the black and white option or the color option and print it off 5 times to get a total of 2,000 warriors. See our come follow me lesson suggestion or come up with your own special way to share the message.

Come Follow Me lesson Suggestion for August 10-16:

Print off the 2,000 stripling warriors free printable from myldspreschool blog.

Show your preschooler the printables and look at how many young men were willing to fight with Helaman and Captain Moroni. The young men were Anti-Nephi-Lehies. Their parents had buried their swords and promised never to fight again as they repented and chose to follow Jesus. These 2,000 young sons did not make the promise to God because they were either too young or not born yet. These boys had been taught by their moms to trust in God and were willing to fight against the big Lamanite armies to protect their freedoms, families, and religion. The 2,000 warriors followed their instructions from their leader Helaman with exactness and not one of them died in their big battle against many, many Lamaintes.

Boil a pot of water. Place a small raw potato and a raw egg still in its shell in the water. As they boil, chat about how each day when hard times come our way, we can choose to move closer or farther away from our Heavenly Father. “What are some trials our family faces?” “How can we react?” After about 10 minutes, take out the egg. “This egg became hardened in the trial of the hot water.” Take out the potato. “This potato became softened in the same trial of the hot water. We can trust in God with each trial we have and choose to grow closer to Him in hard times with a soft heart.”

If you decide to use it, we would love to know how it went.
