DIY Chalkboard

August 5, 2019

Did you know it’s possible to make your own chalkboard? Amazing, right?! To help my preschooler practice fine motor skills on-the-go, I created a mini chalkboard clipboard for him. It’s perfect to fit in the diaper bag or leave in the car. It’s just the right size for a church quiet activity or for keeping my little one busy at doctor appointments. Drawing with chalk helps to strengthen fine motor muscles. Bonus – it’s super fun for kids and moms!

All you need to make your own chalkboard is a can of chalkboard spray paint, a clipboard or some other hard surface, chalk and anything soft to use as an eraser. I had great success with this easy to use chalkboard spray.

I am also in love with this mini clipboard I found on Amazon.

Simply spray your surface, in my case a mini clipboard, with chalkboard spray paint! To keep the chalk off the metal clip, I covered it with painter’s tape. I let the chalkboard spray dry in the sun for about 20 minutes, then I repeated with a new coat, and let it dry overnight. Super darling! Some mamas use a cardboard box, old sheet or tarp to place under their spray paint projects. I’m casual and just use the grass. As it grows and gets mowed, the evidence disappears.

I’d love to see what you create!
