Wreath Ornament Craft

December 7, 2019

How is Light the World going for your family? The suggested activity is not always one I can do, but my mind is constantly on how I can share Christ’s light this holiday season and I LOVE IT. It makes those lines, traffic jams, and the crazy parts of the season so much better! Instead of my mind filling with anger and impatience, I am specifically working to keep my mind filled with love even when it is not reciprocated.

Monday December 9th the Light the World prompt is :

“Think of a close friend or family member. Invite them to do an ornament swap, so you have something to represent each other in your respective homes.”

Heather and I wanted to share an easy ornament idea you could make with your children for this ornament swap. This idea is part of our 12 days of giveaways. Are you following us on Facebook and Instagram so you don’t miss any of the giveaways?

You will need:

  • Old puzzle pieces
  • Green spray paint
  • Red paint or small red beads
  • Glue
  • Ribbon
  • Cardstock cut in circles the size you would like your wreath to be
  • New pencil or eraser (to dip in paint -not needed if using beads)
  • Ribbon
  • A photograph you would like to use

Place your puzzle pieces out on a newspaper or in an old box and spray with the green spray paint. Spray on the printed side. Apply enough coats to cover evenly allowing to dry between coats.

Cut your photograph in a slightly smaller circle that the cardstock. Glue it centered to the circle cardstock.

Arrange and glue your dry painted puzzle pieces around the photograph to form the wreath. This is where your little one can help most.

Make holly berries by gluing on the little red beads in clusters or painting them. If painting, dip the end of an unsharpened pencil or eraser into paint and stamp them on. The painting method is more enjoyable for the kids to help with.

Add your bow and ribbon hanger.

Let it dry completely if using a liquid school glue. Then it is ready to give away or enjoy yourself.

Little crafting moments like these are among my children’s fondest memories. You may find that it is an easy way for you to make some fun memories with your children too. Don’t worry if the end result is not perfect. Keep the experience fun and let it be a bit messy.

Who will you do your ornament exchange with?

Keep sharing your light with the world!!

Merry Christmas.
