Alphabet Cookies

May 22, 2018
  • This is my last week at home with just my little ones before my big kids join us for summer vacation. As a special activity to do with my preschoolers and toddler, we made Alphabet Cookies. I love this activity because it serves as a cooking activity, a snack, and alphabet practice. My kids helped me shape the dough into tiny snakes to form each letter of the alphabet. We made their names as well as spelled a few words. An added bonus is that it also is a fantastic and yummy fine motor activity. I hope you enjoy this recipe!

    Alphabet Cookies

    Ingredients:

    4 ½ cups all-purpose flour

    1 ½ cups butter

    3 hard-cooked egg yolks

    ¾ cup sugar

    3 raw egg yolks

    2 teaspoons vanilla

    Chocolate chips or sprinkles (optional)

    Directions:

    1. Measure flour into a large bowl.
    2. Cut butter into small pieces and add to the flour. Mix with your fingers until the flour and butter form a fine crumb dough. (My kids loved using their clean hands to mix!)
    3. Mash cooked egg yolks with sugar and stir into the flour mixture.
    4. Blend raw egg yolks with vanilla and stir into the flour mixture.
    5. Press the mixture with your hands into a firm ball. Work with the dough at room temperature, but refrigerate it if you will bake it later.
    6. Preheat the oven to 300 degrees.
    7. Pinch off small pieces of dough and roll with your palms to make small ropes.
    8. Shape the ropes into letters.
    9. Decorate the letters with chocolate chips or sprinkles (optional).
    10. Place the letters on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 25 minutes.
